Marine‑Coast Archaeological Assessment
Desolation Sound Archaeology Project (DSAP)
This marine-coast archaeological assessment highlights the deep cultural history of Desolation Sound and its continuing importance beyond its modern identity as a park landscape.
Overview
Desolation Sound is an extremely popular destination for many yachters, kayakers and tourists from all over the world. Unsurprisingly, this area was also very well used in the past — but many archaeological sites are yet to be documented.
As a remedy, this project aimed to target the most recreationally-used areas and define the archaeological sites in detail to support conservation and culturally sensitive management plans.
